Former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa bid a tearful adieu to BJP, severing his four-decade-long association with the saffron party on Friday.
Yeddyurappa submitted his resignation for his membership of legislative assembly and also quit from the primary membership of BJP.
An emotional Yeddyurappa broke down at the Radha Krishna temple in Sanjaynagar in Bangalore as he performed a puja before tendering his resignation. He admitted that he was making the most painful decision of his life by severing ties with the party which he had built over the past 40 years in the state.
Yeddyurappa addressed a rally at Freedom Park before heading to Vidhana Soudha. The former chief minster faxed a letter to party’s national president Nitin Gadkari citing reasons for resigning from the party’s primary membership. While addressing the rally, Yeddyurappa said, “I was forced to resign from the chief minister’s post. My own people stabbed me in the back by hatching a conspiracy. When I resigned from the CM’s post, 75 MLAs followed me till Raj Bhavan. I had asked the party leaders to allow me to dissolve the assembly and face the elections but they did not allow that. I decided not to embarrass the party and resigned. My own party people made sure that its MPs did not defend me in Parliament when opposition party leaders were making allegations against me. Today, I have put an end to all the speculations.” See Dnaindia.com/india/report-bs-yeddyurappa-bids-tearful-adieu-to-bjp-1771959
